PRESS RELEASE CyberGen programme commences in Rwanda in collaboration with MentorHer AfricaNairobi, Saturday, May 18

Kigali, Rwanda – CyberGen by Africa Cyber Defense Forum (ACDF) will officially begin on Monday, 20 May 2024 in collaboration with MentorHer Africa with a cohort of twenty (20) Rwandan girls.

Designed to provide hands-on training in cybersecurity fundamentals, including threat analysis, network security and ethical hacking, the goal of CyberGen is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills they need to become leaders in the fight against cyber crime, and help secure the digital landscape of Africa.

CyberGen is a cybersecurity training program that is open to all young Africans between the age of 18 and 30 who have an interest in cybersecurity and a desire to learn. Participants will receive comprehensive training from instructors who have experience in the field and are committed to passing on their knowledge to the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

The training program will run for four (4) months during which the Rwandan cohort will attend online training sessions and participate in hands-on exercises to develop their skills. Upon completion of the training, students shall be taken through in an intense hands-on skills assessment to gauge their understanding of the cybersecurity concepts and how to apply them. Students who excel in the training program will be eligible for internship opportunities.

“With the CyberGen program we aim to equip 100,000 African youth with hands-on skills, knowledge and certifications to join the cybersecurity workforce. Students from the Rwandan cohort who excel will get an opportunity for job placements and internship opportunities.” Gilbert Nyandeje, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Africa Cyber Defense Forum.

“The collaboration between MentorHer and CyberGen marks a significant step forward in revolutionizing the future of cybersecurity in Rwanda. By combining MentorHer’s pioneering mentorship program with CyberGen’s hands-on training, this collaboration will empower young Rwandan girls with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in cybersecurity. As we enter into this collaboration with CyberGen, we are excited about the possibilities it holds for preparing participants to become leaders in the fight against cybercrime and for bridging the gender gap in the cybersecurity workforce.” Emmanuella Nzahabonimana, Program Lead at MentorHer Africa.
